The starting point before the establishment of Thai Obayashi Corporation Limited, which currently being a very well-known construction company.

In the year 1964, Obayashi Group Japan had expanded its construction business into Thailand. The first project was the construction of AIA's Head Office which the Company had introduced the use of Protection and Steel Scaffolding System in Thailand for the first time. This caused the Company being mentioned widely in the construction industry at that moment and considered the Company as the initiator in setting the standard for the construction industry of Thailand.

The starting point before the establishment of Thai Obayashi Corporation Limited, which currently being a very well-known construction company.

May 29, 1974 remarked as the official date for starting business and the first decade of Thai Obayashi. It was the date that Obayashi group, Bangkok Bank, Siam Commercial Bank, CPB Equity Co.,Ltd., Metro Group jointly registered the establishment of Thai Obayashi Corporation Limited with Mr. Sommai Hoontrakul as the Chairman and Mr. Tadanao Murakami as the President.

During that period the Company had successfully completed a lot of construction projects and the important thing was to be the one who initiated the use of new and modern technology comparable to other countries in the construction work of Thailand. A very outstanding project in that era was the construction of the Bangkok Bank Headquarter Building in 1980, in which Thai Obayashi had brought the "OWS System" technology to be used in the construction for the first time, this was the first origin of Bored Pile and Diaphragm Wall system in Thailand.

THE JOURNEY

1984-1993 ECHOES OF DREAM

Year 1984, move forward to the second decade. The Company had gained more trust from our important customers, one among them was MINIBEA Factory in Ayutthaya Province.

In 1989, Mr. Sommai Hoontrakul had returned to the position of the Chairman and Mr. Shigeo Takanashi was appointed as the President. During this decade, the economy of Thailand was booming. With the Company’s policy which strongly focused on the continuous Quality Improvement and strong Mentoring System the Company had been entrusted to do many big projects at the national level which made the Company’s business grow up constantly.

In 1991, the Company had built the Nantawan Building as its Head Office, located at Soi Mahadlekluang 3, Ratchadamri Road, adjacent to the BTS station Ratchadamri.

DIFFICULT TIME

1994-2003 CHANGE FOR THE BETTER

During this decade, Thailand had suffered a severe economic downturn from the Tom Yum Kung Crisis, causing many businesses closed, many people lost their jobs, changed their careers, causing widespread social impact but the Company was able to overcome this crisis with effort and adherance to the responsibility toward customers and employees.

In 2003 the end of this decade, Thai Employees had got the very good news which made pride for them, that was Mr.Sompong Chintawongvanich was appointed to be the President of Thai Obayashi and considered as the first non-Japanese person who was able to get the highest position in the affiliated companies of Obayashi group.

In the same year, Chaloem Ratchamongkhon Line MRT Project the first subway line in Thailand, one of Thai Obayashi's projects was completed and opened for business. During the same period our construction work at Suvarnabhumi Airport Project was also performed well. Nowadays, Suvarnabhumi Airport has become one of the world's most famous and standard airports.

2004-2013 BEFORE SUNRISE

In 2006, the year of the Sixtieth Anniversary Celebrations of King Bhumibol Adulyadej's Accession to the Throne, the Company had obtained the great honor to renovate the Royal Palace to welcome the Royal Visitors. During this decade, the Company was also honored to be the contractor of new Embassy of Japan and another construction project which created the great reputation and pride for the Company was Toyota plant with an area of 223,000 square meters at Ban Pho District, Chachoengsao Province which the Company was able to complete the construction and deliver quickly within 10 months as required by the customers.

This great success was fruitful from our teamwork and high responsibility in construction schedule which the Company has still adhered to and strictly complied with these two principles so far.

2014-2023 LEGEND OF THE FUTURE

This decade, Thai Obayashi had shown its leader’s position in construction industry especially in terms of using new construction technologies, safety management, HR development and environmental protection etc.

In 2015, Thai Obayashi Training Center was built for developing our human resources and also opened for educational institutes. This training center obtained ASEAN BUSINESS AWARD (SKILLS DEVELOPMENT) in 2022.

In 2019, the 45th anniversary of Thai Obayashi, Mr.Pornchai Sittiyakorn was appointed as the President while Mr.Sompong Chintawongvanich was promoted to Vice Chairman..

Year 2020-2022 under the crisis of COVID-19, Thai Obayashi had implemented the policy “Safe labor, Caring for the community” and used digital technology to manage vaccination and face the situation efficiently until obtaining Thailand Digital Transformation Award 2022. In this decade, Thai Obayashi can delivered a lot of masterpiece projects such as QSNCC, APEC 2022 conference venue, ICONSIAM, Sindhorn Village, and most notably, O-NES TOWER, the Company's new headquarters building.
